MUNICIPAL CELEBRATION OF THE QUEEN'S JUBILEE.
Tho [tirst gathering in connection with tho municipal celebration of tho Qiieen's Jubilee which has been arranged by Mr John Young, Mayor of Sydney, took placo on Tuesday, October 12. The recoption commenced at :> o'clock, and took pluco in tho vestibule of the Town Hall, which had boon decorated for the occasion.
Tho order of reception was arranged as follows:— Melbourne, Hobart, Launceston, Wellington, Auckland, Adulaido, Brisbane, Maryborough, Geelong, Ballarat, Sandhurst, Collin«\vood, South Melbourne, Kiehmond, St Kilda. Firzroy, Portland, Ararat, Beochwortli, Prabran, Ech-'.ca, Toowoomba (Queonslanri), Sydney suburban boroughs, Bathurst, Newcastle, Goulburn, Wagga Wagga, Albury. Tho Mayor of Melbourne was the first to enter. He was attired in his robe of oflice, a dark furred gown, with breochoa, and silk stockings, and he wore round his neck a fino double gold collar. Having shaken hnnds with Miss Young and the Mayor, he introduced his associate?, tho aldermen -ani councillors of the city he represented. The Mayor of Hobart was arrayod in a vory handsome costumo, and wore a dress sword, as * 11 as a gold collar; and tho Mayor of Adelaide waa drossod in a somewhat similar manner. Tho Mayor of Sydney woro only hi« usual scarlet cloak, and was put rather in tho shade by tho splendour of tho coptumos surrounding him. Tho Sydney aldermen havo not yet taken to breeches, silk stocking?, and cocked hats, and they therefore also appeared at a disadvantage alongeide tho visitors, who had donned thnro articles of drew. The scene, in tho hall was an extremely int resting ono. The platform was till dwith costumes which were new to Sydney, while Ihe dresses of tho ladies wero in tho majority of instances elegant. Altogether, about 500 ladies and gentlemen woro present. When all tho visiters had takon their places, tho Mayor of Sydney delivered to them an address of welcome. Mr J. C. Stewart, of Melbourne ; Mr Willian Bundoy, Mayor of Adelai-le; Mr J. G. Davios, Mayor of Hobart; Mr Hipwood, Mayor of Brisbane ; Mr A. \V. Brown, Mayor of Wellington ; and Mr \V. K. Waddel, Mayor of Auckland, delivered brief addresses.
