The New South Wales Deficit.
London, October 7th. —The announcement made by the New South Wales Premier during his speech of the existence of • < depression ir. the colony is pointed to as ceni firming tbe'statements made by Mr Norton I when endeavouring to diFCOurage emigration from England to New South Wales. Tho publication of the unexpected intelligence regarding the serious deficiency in the finances of New South Wales exercised an immediate effect upon the prioe, which at once fell 2 per cant.; but when tho first feeling of astonishment fubfided, they partially recovered. The "Standard," referring to tbo cable announcement on the uneatisfaotory condition of the finances of tbe colony, says: —"It is incredible that there can be a deficiency of £2.000,000." Tie " Times " also refuses to believe that matters are so bad as represented, and expresses the opinion that the existing depression and its effects have been over rated by Sir P, Jennings. In response to the note issued by the Bulgarian Government, Earl Iddeeleigh has despatched a circular to the Powers suggesting the desirability of them giving a moral assistance to Bulgaria in the present cti-ia. Those electors who sympathise with the action of Russia in demanding complete submission havo determined to abstain frcm voting at tbe elections of the Sobi-an je, or General Assembly. Emigration. The " Chronicle " expresfC9 the opinion that the Emigration Bureau is pandering to colonial hostility against emigration to the colony, and says that the alleged scarcity of employment in Australia will not deter sensible pcrsone from emigrating. The Queen s Jubilee. London, October 11. Tho Agents-General for tho Australian colonies have accepted an invitation sent by the Lord Mayor of London to confer with tho Mansion Houee Committee with referenoe to the celebration of the Queen's Jubilee next year.
