MAUKU SCHOOL MATTERS.
A public meeting was held in the PubUfl Hall, Patumahoe, on Wednesday, the 6th October, for the purpose of considering the action of tho Board of Education re tie. school matters of tho district. Mr JulliK Adolph was called to the chair. : .'Tl* following resolutions were moved and seconded, and carried unanimously: MSprowle moved, and Mr McFaddOß -econded, " Seeing that there are no complaints from tho parents of the children attending tho West Mauku School, it to not desirable to divide the district, and the persons memorialising the Board for the division havo no children att-hding the WestMauku School." Mr John Watson moved, and MrE. Adolph seconded, "That the Board of Education be. requested.to refer tho matter to the Local Committee. Three other resolutiocs similar in eft-CH were adopted.
The "Figaro" states that the ChinMGovernment ha* decided to apply to the French engineer, for the early construction •f railways in China.
