TELEGRAMS.
Thames, this day. Tin; Secretary of the District Hospital and Charitable Aid Boards has received a tele gram from tho Premier's ofiico, statim* that after consideration tie Government waro of opinion that tho Piako County Council is not liable to contribute to tho Boards after its separation, but Government would at once deduct and pay the Boards tho County's proportion of contiibution due to date of tho new Act coming into force. It is understood that the amount owing by Piako to the Boards is about £80J, and it has been decided that uuless this sum be paid before the 18th inst, legal proceedings will bo instituted against Piako for its recovery. At a meeting of those interested in athletic?, it was decided to hold a sports gathering feere on St. Andrew's Day. At tho last meeting several Auckland pods took part, and it is antic'pitid some will enter on tho present occasion.
