Dunedin, this day. The corner stone of the New Zealand Ineuranoe Company's new olHoe was laid with some coremony yesterday afternoon, in the presence of a number of loading citizens. The building is situated in Rattray-street, and will cost £12,236. It will not bo completed till September next.
Inspeotor Weldon's leave of absence is for six months, on account of ill-health, and he will pay the Home Country a visit. It is twenty-live years since he came here from Victoria, and he has been connected with the Otago police ever since.
First Offender's Probation,
At the Supreme Court to-day Georgo Godfrey, who was convicted of larceny, was discharged under the First Offender's Probation Act. The judge gave orders that the expenses of the prosecution Bhould be paid out of money, carried by the prisoner,
