VOLUNTEER NOTES.
Examination.
Nine candidates presented themsolvos for tho officors examination yesterday. These included representatives from tho Wairoa Rifles, Waitemata Navals, Victoria Riflos, Hobson Rifles, College Hides, Onehunga Rifles, Engineers and Veterans. They will undergo the practical part of thoir examination at tho Naval Battalion drill on Friday evening.
There was a fair muster of the companies forming No. 2. Battalion at the Drill-shed last evening. Major Dignan was present. Adjutant Clifton put the men through a number of battalion movements. At the close of tho parado there was a competiticn amongst tho Guards for uon-commissioned officers. Serjeant-Major Campbell examined the competitors in squad drill; &c, with tho result that Volunteer Phillips was placed Ist; Taylor 2nd ; Rollett 3rd.
