The first anniversary of tho formation of tho Pitt-street String Band was celebrated last ovening by a concert givon io the schoolroom under the church. Owing to tho number of counter-attractions, there was not so good an attendance as tbo eccasion merited, but the audience was, nevertheless, an appreciative one Owing to the absence of tho Rev. H. Bull, Mr G. H Douglas presided. Beforo tbe band rendered the last selection, Mr G. Winstone proposed a vote of thanks to the friends, and in doing so roforred to the success which has attended tbe band since its formation.

To morrow (Wednesday) evening tho annual peblic Home Mission meeting will be held in St. John's Wosleyan Church, Ponsonby, when addresses will be given by Mr J. Gittos (Chairman), and the Revs. Taylor, C. H. Garland, and others. Through the help of tho Home Mission Fund many people are reached who otherwise would never hear the Gospel from year to year, besides ministering to tho spiritual wants of the natives in several districts. Thoro will, na doubt, bo a large gathering tomorrow evening.

Three bands of musicians took part in tho temperance torchlight demonstration to Mr Matthew Burnett last night, viz , the Newton Temperance Bandandthe Auckland and Parnell Salvation Army bands, Mr R. French acted as marshal of the procession. At the close of the subsequentmeeting in the City Hall votes of thanks were passed on Mr Garlick's motion to the various bandß for their assistance, to the Newton Fire Brigade for loan of torches, and to the Stab and " Herald " for their notices.
