Beresford street Day school.

An entertainment was held last Friday evening in the above building, the proceeds of which wero devoted to the Star Shilling Subscription Fund. Considering the state of the weather, tho attendance was very good. Mr C. McMaster, member of the School Committee.olficiated as Chairman. Part songs wero rendered by the children in a creditable manner, also pianoforte solos by Miss Holts, and a duet by the Misses Goldie. Two of the lady teachers, Mieses Howard and Lumsden, favoured the audience with three duets, which, it is needless to say, were deservedly applauded. Misse3 Campbell, Warren, and Monin, and Mra Carter sang appropriate songs, and an instrumental duet on violins waa performed by Miss L. Harrison and Mr Hiscock. Thia lady subsequently played a violin solo, which was well received. Recitations wero delivered by Masters Frank Mason and Alfred Williams. The moat interesting itema of tho evening were the recitations by Miss Geitrude Willows, 'Tho Teetotal Cat" and "The Little Snowball." This littlo lady has only passed 7 summers, but her performance was highly creditable, and she was lewarded with an enthusiastic encore. Master Harold Montague, aged G years, waa similarly honoured for his excellent rendering of a song. This entertainment waa one of the beat yet given at Beresford-street, and the performance of tho scholars reflects credit on all concerned. The handsome amount of £7 os was taken at the door, and subsequently forwarded to this office.
