HELENSVILLE BLUE RIBBON ARMY.
Tin-: half-yearly meeting of the Helcneville blue Ribbon Army was held in tho Foresters' Hall on Monday, the 23id. After a hymn had been sung, Mr Ballans opened the meeting with prayer. Mr West, President, reviewed the work of the past sis months, and showed that good results had rewarded our labours. Whilst regreting the loss of sevoral friends, he was pleased that fourteen persons had joined the army. Ho also onl&rged on the enormoup amount epent in drink, and proved how, if this sum had been spent in other ways, there would not be the terrible amount of poverty and want of employment which prevail at present. Misfl Sandin next played an overture; reading by Mr Webber : song, " Ehrin on the Rhino," -Miss Ballans ; recitation, " The Ocean," Mr Hurry ; waltz, piano and violin, Messrs Walker and Entwiatle ; song, "Jessie's Dream," Miss A. Coutts; address by Mr Ballans ; recitation by Mr Turley ; song, " Little Bright Eyes Will You Misa Me, ' Miss S. Vercoe. The following officers wore elected for the next term :—President and Treasurer, Mr West; Viee-Preeident, Mr Recroft ; Secretary, Mr Biu'Hnson ;' Committee, officers ex clficio, Messrs Cameron, Webber, Heldt, Bimrner, Hunter, and Dye, and Miss A. Rimmer, witn power to add to the number. For rhe Band of Hope, Mr Cameron was elocted SuporintenI dent; Mr Ballans, Deputy Superintendent ; Mr Burlinson, Secretary and Treasurer. Same Committee as the Blue Ribbon Army. We have long felt the need of an elocution class, and have to thank Mr Turloy for the assistance he rendered us in forming one, and for several excellent recitations he favoured us with. Mr A. West will be glad to receive the names of any willing to join.— (Correspondent.)
