Eden Star Miustrels.
THE performance givon by the Eden Star Minstrel- last evening, in the City Hall, in aid of AVidow Laing and family, was a capital one. There was not such a large attendance as the objects of tho entertainment warranted, but the hall was fairly filled. >'o fewer than seventeen members of the company took part in the chair performance, while the circle possessed eight I-ornor men. An excellent orchestra contributed in no small degroo 10. the success of this portion of the entertainment. Mr Horace Dean acted as conversationalist, with .Messrs C. Weedon, C. James, W. Doyle, and J. Maken as bones, and Messrs C. V, lute, Or. Armstrong, C. Howio, aud C. Annett as lambus. The "gag" was the weakest part 01 the prograSme, and had it not been lor the repetition of the jokes by Mr Dean, who was the life and soul of the company, the point of many of them would have been lost to the audience. Ihe mmsti-elsj was very good, excellent, songs being contributed as follow! :-Overture, Crown Diamonds, the Company; "Dinah Duck." Mr G- Armstrong; "Only to see her Pace again, Mr 11. \\ I lite. •■Dunk Foot Sue. Mr _. James: "Mothers List Request "Mr. J. song and dance, ".She's such a Love. Messrs. \\. Scagar Ami M. P Maher : " -She was such a girl tol _u"h," C. Weedon: "Time will roll ho Clouds away " Mr 11. Dean : ••Hush lillie baby. «_£" yo_ «_y" Mr C. While: " Sing me the old songs again." Mr W. K. . lames, rhe hi to these songs wore rendered by Mcs* s. Mean and James. The .horiissos were rcullj good. The first part concluded with Ulll 10111.0 Vmcc "an amusing finale. In Ihe second part, 'iesws W. Se gei'aiid M. P Maher doiicert v double st.ni3.iig. Mr J. Williams sang •• True till Death." Mr W. Rend (lanced an American sar.tl.ii_. Several other Items, inchuhng a -Surprise Parly," wero satisfactorily con tribute,-!. Mr (J. W. Spratt gave a capital rendition of the national song, "Balaclava, whilo Mr H. Lean was deservedly encored tor his singing of "Britannia's Sons,' his now patriotic song, which was given in character A really good performance concluded with tlio farce, "Mrs Jack's Visitors," and plantation walk round.
