Tho Woodstock Smelting.

Woodstock.—The result of tho smelting for the Company has not quite realised oxpootationa, inasmuch aa it was believed that bullion to tho amount of £'100 would bo saved, wheroas it is stated that the bullion on hand will not exceed £300 in value. The furnace trimmings aro expected to bo worth £400, but even that will not account for tho lose on assay value of the oro troatod. Tho run was so short that the test can scarcely bo said to have beon a fair ono, and it ia to be I hoped that tho Company will make provision for oxtsndod poriods of work before starting noxt time. At tho mine first-class stonois boing obtained from the a topes as well as from the winze going down beneath tho low level. This stone is boing divided into two classes. No lis reserved for furnacing purposes, and No. 2 is boing operated on with 16 head of stampers at the Ivanhoo battery, whoro it is shaping for a roturn of fully lo_ per ton. Diamond.—Twenty tons of quartz aro in course of transit to tho Ivanhoo battery, whore it will bo treated next week, and the manager expects a handsomo roturn Crown. — Duiing the past week tho manager has made a thorough overhaul of tho mine, securing tho lovols, and forming passes, etc., with a viow to carrying on stoping operations, which aro new in progress on No. 2 roof, and stono of good quality is being obtainod New Quartz Reduction Works.—Since my last report the weather has boen so bad as to provont much headway being made with outside work, but splendid progress has been made inside tho building whore all the different appliances aro now in position, and the work ot orectinj settling pits is fast approaching completion. Waitkkauki, thiß day. W-TCOME.— B, Birney and party, proprietors of this mino, finished a crushing of 25 tons of quartz for a return of 2150_ retorted gold. Although this roturn is not equal to expectations, it will pay handsomely. WauHi this day. Silvkkton. — Stono showing gold freely is now coming to hand from the stopes oast of the winze, whoro tho reef is about 12ft. thick, with gold diffused throughout the whole mass. UfJio.v. —Tho reef measured threo feot thick in the level, as well as in the stopo?, and splendid stono ia being obtained from both points. Martha Extended.—Tho work of driving a low level along the course of tho reef is still boing continued, with highly satisfactory result.. Boss, this day, Ross United. —Tho returns for Tuesday, Wednoeday, and Thursday, aro 42ozs 15dwts for 33 picks. The ground is etill hard and stonoy reducing the avorago cutput per man.
