Americans in London.
Long years ago tho English pooplo wero in daily dread of a French invasion. Now they are called upon to witness an American ono, and ore none tbo worso for it; in fact, they rather like the procoss. One has only to glance ovor the list of aingora at private or public concerts or at tbe opera, or to contemplate the playbills of the day, to realise what a footing our country pooplo hava gained herein the artistic realm of England.. Mmes. Antoinette Sterling, Anna Bulkley Hills and Misaea Hope Glenn, Gortrude Griawold, Mary Johnston and Nettio Carpontorin concerts, Jolia Valda nnd tho beautiful Ells Bussoll in opera. Messrs. Oudinahd Wilder, the Daly troupe, and tho " Adonis" troupe are omon. the successes of the hour. Tho most brilliant entertainment of tho season, so far, has boon given by Mrs John W. Mackay. Tho most elegant court dresses that have beon worn at tbe drawing-rooma hove been those of Mrs Mnckoy and of Mrs Marshall O. Foberts, Miss Adelo Grant has beon the acknowledged boauty of tho season, her claims heing shared without boing lessoned, by Miss Marion Longdon. Thus the Store and Stripes have been entwined in poaccful social rivalry with tbo Union Jack, ond I am not prepared to say but what tho transatlantic bannor has had tho best of it.
