Thames Gas Co —Annual Meeting.

Tiik annual meeting of shareholders of this Company was held at (he office of Mr V. A. White at 11 a.m. to-day, Mr C. B. Stone presiding. The report of tho directors was a 8 follows -.—The directors have much pleasure in presenting shareholders with the balance sheet nnd prolit and loss account for the year ended .-lUt July Inst, from which it will be seen that, after making provision for bad and doubtful debts, and v, sum uiiual to 1 por cent, as depreciation 011 value of plant and buildings, there remains a sum Of £909 5s lOd available tor division, which they recommend being appropriated as follows :—To payment of a dividend of Is lid per share, which, with the interim dividend puid in February last, is equnl to 8 per cent, per nnnum on the paid-up capital of the Company, leaving 11 balance of £220 12s lOd to be carried forward to now account. In accordance with the Company's Articles of Association, Air J. L. "Wilson retires from the directory, and, being eligible, oilers himself for re-election. It is also the duty of this meeting to elect an auditor for the current year. Mr CJeorgo Fraser again offers bis services to the shareholders.

The balance-sheet showed the gross receipts of the year to have been £4,071 Gs '2d, expenditure, £2,275 3s sd. Mr J. L. Wilson was re-elected director, and Mr (i. Frnserattditor, and Ihe meeting separated with the customary compliment to tho Chairman.

At tho Police Court this morning a res-pectable-looking man named James Leslie was charged before Messrs Whitcombe and Kwington with the larceny of a quantity of fools, tho property of Mr Davis. Mr Cotter appeared for tho accused, and stated that tho prosecutor did not wish to proceed with tho case, and ho would therefore ask that the chargo might be withdrawn. It appeared that tho two men wore passnngors in the same vessel, and arranged to mutually look after ench other's property. Tbe accused arrived in Auckland, and net finding Mr Davis, had removed the goods to Mongonui 'Tho prosecutor appeared in Court, and confirmed this staton ont. 110 was convinced that thero had beon no fe'onious intent. Tho Bench dismissod tho charge, and remarked that it was a soiious thing- (o cause a respectable young man to bo arrested in this manner when no offence had b:on committed.

Mnl.oan and Sons (Wellington), £52,012 ; Whitaker and Mackio(Dunedin), £72,410 ; Mac Leo Bros. (Kaikoura), £73,0-14 ; D. Glcndinning(Napior), £7-1,500 ; E. J. F Price (Hokitika), £76,850.

Owing to tho popular feeling against the Waikomiti Cemetery, on account of its cheerless charactor, a very largo number of persons who havo recontly riiod have expressed a wish to bo buried in tho Epsom or Bomuora burying-ground. Especially have thoro bocn many applications for ground in tho picturotquo spot at Epsom. It is certninly a pretty burying-ground, and it, is no wonder that so many apply. But the Epsom church trustees and authorities have issued a public noitice that evory application in the future will be disallowed, unless it is for those resident in the Epsom district, and belonging to the church there. This rule cannot be broken under any circumstances in the future.

The arbitration case Isaacs v. the Queen, which was commenced yesterday at the E.M, Court before Mr H. G. Soth Smith, 8.M., was continued this morning, tho plaintiff still being under examination. Messrs Theo. Cooper and H. Shera appeared far the plaintiff, and Messrs C. Ej Button and Thos. Cotter the Government.

Mr Duncan Wright, the evangelist now labouring among the Presbyterian Churches, may be expected to deliver an address tomorrow evening at the City Hall service, which commences at 8 o'clock.
