Wellington, this day. It is rumoured that Major Gudgeon, UoderSecretary of Defence, and the Hon. Golonel Konny are to be appointed Cemmiasioners to inquire into all the claims _-)• '— "«i
old soldiers, Volunteers, and militiamen to grants of land and other compensations. The appointment of Resident Magistrate atJWellingtonand District Judge of the Wairarapa has been offered to Mr Lowtber Broad,the present District Judge at Nelson, Hokitika, and Greymouth, and it is probable he will accept the position. Mr Broad will be recollected as a member of the firm of Broad, Houghton, and Heddell, at one time mining agents at tho Thameß.
