Like lire struggling thro' some murky cloud,, Threatening to quench its light ln baleful emoke, We strugglo upward, round us things which Our batter aspirations thickly crowd, Crushing them, spite their splendour bright and proud) 1 At times we rise, yet feeble and in vain Our effort* seem -wo soon we sink again, Ch.ked with the cloud wreaths that onr lives , enshroud. Within ns. who may toll the lofty alms, Tbe high ideals living ln the brain. Gleaming with fiery beauty, whloh disdain The oommonplaoe and low? Without, all shames These two ennobling visions, sooth to tell: Thought whispers, heaven-action muttera boil, i "K. H, Gulliver.
