Fancy Dress Ball,
The Ponsonby "At Home" season was concluded lost evening with a fancy dresa ball In the Ponsonby Hall, there being about forty couples present. The hall was neatly decoratod with flage, etc., the preparations being made by momho-s ot the Committee, viz., Messrs O. Cruloksbank, A. Dovoro, D. F. Evans, G, 8. Jakins, T. T. Masefleld, Charles Molndoe. J. H. Upton, and Dr. Dawson and Dr. Lewis. Many of the ladies' dresses wera very hand; Borne, and a few of tho gentlemen had also gone to considerable trou.lo in getting up notable impersonations, although among _ tho latter tho ninef.enlh century costume was rather conspicuous. Mr Ma_ofleld ably discharged the onerous duties of M.C., and the requisite dance music was discoursed by an efficient band. The French Literary Society holds its mealing this ovening at Mr J. 11. Francis's rc3idence. Symonds-atrnet (formerly Whitaker's Katate). Mr C. do L'Eau, President, will read over one of his original novelettes, entitled, " U no Vieite ohes. Un Heimito.'
