THE MISSING CORVETTE AUGUSTA.
Tiik German corvette Augusta, which it is fenred hns foundered at sea while on tho wny with relief crews for German vessels on the Australian station, arrived in Auckland Harbour on March 12th, 1877, to supersede the Hertha, also at this port, as flagship of H.I.M. on the Australian station. She remained here until March 2oth, and then left for Samoa in continuation of her voyage. Tho Augusta was thea in charge of Capt. Hassenpflug, who died shortly after his return to Germany. The missing corvctts was along, low, miscliievpus-lookingcraft of about 2000 tons, ship-rigged, and carried a very powerful armament. She was built in France for the American Navy at the time of the Civil War, and was subsequently purchased for the Eniperor of Germany.
