Wbixington. this day.—Serious doubts ore experienced as to the safety of the Eastern Extension Cablo Company's repairing steamer Magnetic which left Portland, England, on 10th March, ond was visiting Australia to relieve the cable steamer Agnes, and was to coll at the various stations on tho way out. About the time the Magnetic sailed from Portland severe gales were experienced on the Englißh coast, ond it is thought that Bhe may have encountered one of those and foundered. Mr Shepley, who is well-known in New Zealand, as formerly having charge of the New Zealand cable station at Wakapuaka, and recently at La Ferouse, New South Wales, was a passenger by the Magnetic.
