Having been Chairman of tho Board himself 7io kno>\ who wero tho workers of that body, and ho could therefore say, without hesitation, that Mr' Aickin was among tho best of thorn. Ho had lately boeomo a ship owner, and no man attonded more zealously to tho interests of the shipping public, and particularly to tho interests of tho small shippors. Ho had laboured hard during his term of ollieo, and now that tho City Coaincil had publicly dealt him an unmerited enub, it would bo a graceful not on tho part of tho shippers to return him in face of that body. Mr 11. C. Carr seconded the nomination. Mr George Cozens proposed Mr 1). H, McKonxio as a candidate, and Mr John Lamb seconded■ Mr A. H, Nathan nominated Mr John Lamb, and Mr \V. S. Lawrio socondod. Ho could assure thorn that it had not beon misplaced, and that it never should bo, so far as their interests wero concerned. Mr Niccol cordially thanked tho electors for the honour they had paid him in placing him so high up on tho poll. He had done nothing in the Board to bo ashamed of, and he hoped that ho novor should. Mr Aickin said that although not one of the successful candidates, ho had much pleasure in thanking tho electors for the measure of support that they had given him. He was not so woll known to many of thorn as somo of the other candidates, and therefore, the result did not surprise him greatly. He had endeavoured to do his duty while in the Board, and ho know of nothing he had done, of which he had any reason to feel ashamed. All his actions could boar to eeo the daylight, and ho only asked those who wore opposed to him to look into his conduct. They would then bo convinced that ho had striven to render good service to the public. Mr Hendorson thanked the electors for tho position in which they had placed him. It was almost tho tir.st occasion on which he had undertakon public duties, and he hoped thatj the contidonce shown in him would not bo misplaced. Mr John Lamb also returned thanks.
