THE PORTFOLIO OF MINES.

(BY TKLKORAI'U—OWN CORRESPONDENT),

Wellington, this day; It is thought in tho best-informed circles that there ia truth in the rumour that Mr Larnach will be called to tho Upper House in the course of a month or two, and that he will then relinquish the portfolio of Mines and retain only tho portfolio of Trade and Customs held by Mr Reynolds. It is thought not unlikely that the portfolio of Mines will ultimately be held by a member for a goldficlds constituency. Messrs Cadman, Seddon, and O'Connor are freely mentioned in connection with the appointment. It will be remembered the former was a strong favourite for tho position during last session.
