The stock and sharemarket has been remarkably, dull for some time past, and brokers are wondering when thore will bo a change tor tho better. During the past week, scarcely anytiling has been done in the Exchange. Banking and Insurance stocks remain firm. Buyers in Colonial Bank shares, 42a; in South British 'insurance, 51a; Auckland Gas, at £10 ss; Thames Gas, 2fe i Auckland Timber Co., HA 15a. The only business done in the mining market has been in Cambria and Meanataiari (Extended). Sales in the former: lla 9d, 128,12a 6d; and in the latter, la lOd.

G. W. Blnney and Co. report that at their weekly sale on Tuesday, 3rd-inst.. of wool, hides and skins, the market for hides continued firm, first-class cleanstouthidearealiring 33d to lid; light, 3d to 3Jd; dry, 2Jd to lid: calf skina, 23d to id per lb; pelta and lamb skina at last week's quotations.
