Sin, —The marked improvement that has taken place in Ponsonby since the election of our present local Licensing Committee, and tho closing of tho public-houses at ion o'clock in tho evening, as well as the total cessation of Sabbath traffic in liquor, U certainly a mattoi of congratulation to every right-minded person nmongat us. It is, indeed, a species of reformation that was imporntivoly needed, and tho ratepayers doservo honrtfolt thanks for the choico they had mado in their representatives at the Licensing Bench, who havo strictly adhorei to tho stipulations of tho platform upon which they wero oloeted. It may also bo stated that tho holders of tho licenses in our ward have boon consistent in complying with the law Binco tho restrictions havo been impo3ed upon thorn, thus conducting their hoiuas well. As tho licensing election for the onsuing year is now at hand, and as tJie present Committee are, it is understood, willing to bo be placed in nomination for re election, tho ratepayers should unhesitatingly roturn thorn for another term, seeing that they are all men in whose integrity and uprightness the people of PonBonby havo full confidence.—Yours, <&0., A Ratepayer.
