DnuNK.—Three persons were punished for this offenco, 5s each. False Pretence.—Frank Edward ■ Newell was charged wiih obtaining from John Smith tho sum of £3 by false pretcnoe, with intent to defraud, and was remanded until Friday next. Bail, self in £50 and two in £25 each. an Ugly Customer.—Carl Steinbaoh,native of Germany, was charged with drunkenness and using obsoene langusge. Prisoner pleaded not guilty to the latter ohnrge.—Edwin Bowden, bootmaker, of Victoria-street, deposed that prisoner called at his shop last orening and wanted a pair of boots. He tried on several pairs, and pulled them about a good deal. He remonstrated with him, when prisoner broke out and used the most disgusting language, in the presence of ladies. Was compelled to give him in charge. Similar evidence was given by Thos. Quoi, two other witnesses, and Constable Sole.—Fined 40s, or, In default, one month with hard labour. Indecent Exposure.—Alexander Phillips was charged with willfully exposing his person in Wyndham-. tteet on tho evening of the 2Gth. —Prisoner who had been remanded for a week, said he had unfortunately been drinking, and was Ignorant of having committed this oifenco. Ho was sorry. — Fined 20s and costs of maintenance, etc., lis. Lunacy.—John Median was again brought up on a charge of attempting to commit suicide. —Sorgt Pratt stated particulars of prisoner's attempt from the wharf.—Dr. C. E. Tennent deposed to the state of prisoner's mind. Had examined him very carefully, and was satisfied that he -was of Bound mind.—The Bench discharged the prisoner. Absent Without Leave.—Gustavuß Lot a native of Austria, was charged with absenting himself from tho ship Florence Trent on the 3rd inst.—The Captain stated the circumstance, and said as prisoner was an old offender he wished the Bench to punish him.—Seven days' imprisonment. Summons Cases.—Patrick Glecson was fined 2Cs for allowing a light in Wellesley-street to go out.—Mr Gleeson said he would plead guilty although the fault was another's. — Robert Moore, ss, for neglecting to chain his wheel at Shelly Beach.-Daniel Dooly was fined 5s for riding on a footpath at Ponsonhy.-Constable Coins stated that Dooley was a butcher's boy a class who tako liberties in this w^.-Defendant urged that this was his first offence, and nccossary in this instance, as tho lady of the house was anxioualy waiting for a round of beef — Edward Copland, charged with permitting the chimney of his houso in Grey-street to be on fire, was fined 5s and cost* Charles Wesley.—This young man. who attempted to commit suioide last night at thn wharf, was remanded for medical examination The Stabbing CASE.-Edward Dumont w__ brought up on a charge of stabbing Frank Durant with a knife in Darby-street last nis-ht —Sergeant Pratt said he was quite prepared tn go on with this case. All the witnesses wore S resent. After waiting some ten minutes the enoh wished to ascertain the cause of the do lay. lho reply was, " A clerk to take down the deposit ons,'r and as a clerk could not be obtained, tbe case was adjourned until to-morrow and the Court rose.
