A Droby Lane TBiaßDsr.-—JCdwurd Drnry was brought up, charged for tho third time with being, drunk; also with damaning Constable Hansen'g uniform coat (value 30s) on the 29th instant.—Defendant pleaded guilty to drunkenness, but objected to being charged under the Vagrant Act. He would not plead guilty to the second charge.—Constable Hansen uepoßcd that he arrested prisoner in Rutland - street for drunkenness, and in taking him to the lock up he resisted him and tore his overcoat (produced, split up the back). — Witness vtaa cicsa-queu-tfoned very severely by'prisoner.— Constable Ed word Lamb gave corroborative evidence. Prisoner was wilfully resisting the constable. The coat was rent from tjp to bottom. "Under and Over."—James Evens was charged with a breach of the Lotteries Ace by piuying with dice at a game known as "Under and Over," at Takapuna races, on Saturday last--Sergeant Prate prosecuted, ar.d called Detective Hughes, who entered Into a lucid explanation of the game, which was fully 40 per ceiit in prisoner's favour. He was doing a lucrative business on the course, and had only jnst done a month at Mount Eden for a similar offence at Ellerslio. Dirty Closets.—Alexander Barnes -war charged with a breach of the bf-laws with causing a nuisance on his premises in Unionstreet, on the information of Mr Uoldie. Sanitary Inspector.—Defendant said he had onl* recently got possession of the premises —Mr Cotter appeared to prdsecnt-*. and asked for a remand for three days to give defendant an . opportunity ot abating the nuisance, otherwise he should ask fur a heavy penalty.—Frances Barnes was charged with a similar offence on her premises in Kokeby-street.—Defendant did not appear.-Inspector Goldie deposed to the condition ot the place onithe 25th inst. About 5 p.m. the prisoner came in and said ho wanted a dictionary for Mr MoCullougb, of High-street. Sbcwed him a small one. Ho •uUI it was not large enough for the office. Ho took it away, saying if it did not suit he would return it; ; met him about half-pact six o'clock; he said tho dictionary would do very well.
