Leprosy.
(To the Editor.)
Sib, —Your issue of Saturday'lasi gave.soni9£ very startling facts re Chinese leprosy, and . it occurs to me that as we'in "Auckland'alre I getting a fair number of-Chiriamea ias res!- 1 : dents, tho authorities should take some* steps to organise' and carry oufe a«yetein-of" supervision of these/ However,'-If the cbri- ; tagion can bo carried in clothes and cigars, why not in vegetables or in the clothes of I those who vend or cultivate thene? There;, is a shop in a* by-street off Queen-street from which 15 and 10 Chinamen-Issue at a time, though only one man is supposed to' ' occupy the shop. I think that-prevention ■ is better than cure, and as overcrowding ' seems to be an invariable habit with tho * Chineeo, that prevention of thißand-peribdi-i----cal inspection of Chinese quarters is much better than hopeless efforts to stamp out a leprosy when it is discovered.—Yours, &c, ( November 23. ; CmZJiN. j
