The only other rate in the city is id for Free Public Library. There le no poor rate. Outside city boundaries tho rates levied by suburban bodies vary, but none exceed Is in tho pound. They are, however (except in Parnell). without a water supply. Britain has gTeater extremes of both heat and cold than any part of this colony. Even here, the greatest heat is experienced In the South Island. Last year the maximum temperature at Auckland was only. 147 in the <un> while it was US at Wellington, ond 13S At Dunedin.
