SERIOUS MINING ACCIDENT.

Tiirco Men Injured by an Explosion.

Thames, this day. A serious mining accident occurred on Saturday afternoon in the Canadian Low Level Company's workings, resulting in the severe injury of three miners, named Samuel Howard, Alfred James, aud Nicholas Pearce. The men had charged three holes with blasting powder, which they proceeded to explode by " spitting " the fuse, or igniting the powder in the notch at its end. One of the charges exploded instantaneously, throwing tho three unfortunates down in the drive, but the earth displaced by the other two shots fortunately washed over their prostrate bodiec James and Howard were burned badly, but luckily their eyes escaped injury. Howard suffered most seriously, his thumb and the index finger of his left hand being shattered to such an extent as to necessitate amputation. Peareo escaped with severe contusions.
