Tile Drainage.
Drainage not only dcopons the soil, but improves it in toxturo and quality. Tho roots of crops will ponetrato only to the depth tliQ land is drained. Tho land can bo worked sooner after rains, and will rotain moisture longor during a drought. Tho ground bocomes warm and in good condition to bo worked early in tho spring, which is an important item in tho cultivation of nearly all crops ; tho soil being free from water, tho air penetrates it to a considerable depth, and imparts warmth and fertilizing qualities. Crops grown on drained land contain a much larger poroent. of nutriment', and consequently are more valuable than those grown on land which is water-soaked a largo portion of tho growing season. Tho danger of, winter-killing is much less whoro tho land is drained, and surface washing is prevented. Aside from theso and many other advantages to crops, drainago moves all standing water before it becomes stagnant, and banishes chills and fever and other malarial diseases. Tile-drainage is tho cheapest and most effectual way of drying up swamps and ponds, muddy roads and the'disagreable mud around farm buildings ; it will change tho pale and sickly hue of your children's complexion to the ruddy bloom of health. As more of the mysteries of vegetable growth are solved, the more will successful farmers learn of the great benefits of tile drainage.— Home, Farm, and Factory.
