The building was also insured, but tho amount is unknown. Tho stables and outbuildings, bolonging to Mr Jackson, butcher, Papanui, wore destroyed by fire. Tho loss is fully covored by insurance.

A concert is to bo given on Thursday evening noxt in tho Ponsonby Hall in connection with St. Mary's Convent. Tho entertainment will bo under tho patronage of the Sisters of Mercy, and tho object for which it has beon organised is to raiso sufficient funds to carry on a bazaar, which it may bo mentioned will eventuate in a few months. Many offers of support havo already been received, and, judging by tho array of talent who have generously proffered their gratuitous services, tho affair should at leabt prove a pecuniary success.

Tho Genoral Committco of the Auckland Benevolent Society is to meet in the City Council Chambers to-morrow at two p.m., when those of tho public who tako an interest in the Society's work aro in vited to be present.
