ST. PATRICK'S DAY.
It has always been customary in Auckland to observe the 17th of March as a partial holiday.in honour of the patron saint oflreland. The observance this year was more general than in the past, the majority of the larger business places in town being closed during the afternoon. Tho Domain was the chief holiday resort, a fete and sports taking place in one portion, and several cricket matches proceeding in another. Numbers of people went out of town for the purpose of witnessing the Henderson's Mill races ; while the ferry steamers were fairly patronised, and water excursions appeared popular. Better weather could not have been desired on the occasion. The morning broke clear and bright, and during the day a light southerly breeze tempered the heat, which would otherwise have heen oppressive.
