Induced me to .send a report to the Grafionroad School Committee in reference to my' first usslNtnnt, Mr It. Talbot, or to issue certain rules for his guidance— G. Hbaley. Some discussion followed, and Mr Ooldic moved that an opportunity bo given to Mr Talbot to submit an explanation to the Board. He understood that this had been agreod to at last mooting.—Mr Moss agreed with Mr Goldio, and tho Chairman supported it Ho considered that in all fairness Mr Talb"t should be furnished with the head teacher's report, m that ho might reply to it it ho thoUght fit SO to do.—Messrs Luko and Clark acceded to flic request of tho Committeo to make a transfer.—lt was finally agreed that the matter bo referred to the Committee for roport, and that the Committee be askad to furnish Mr Tulbot with a copy of the complaints made, in order that he might be in a position to reply to simo. This matter was deferred. .„.!.■ Aitlicatioxß.—The lemainder of the business contested of applications for small grants, teachers' buildings, ico. Mr Holms, who had retired during the election, took his scat and expressed his thanks to the committees who had shown their confidence, in him by placing him in such a roepcctablc position on the poll. That Ml committees had voted showed that they were notindifferentasto their rights and privileges, as Bomo people would lead us to suppose, and he accepted tho vote now recorded as a complete answer to those who had endeavoured to impugn his past action in the Hoard. He need not say another word on this su'ijoct; ho could afford to be generous, and let the past be forgotten, and "let the dead bury their dead." He had been a member of the Hnard of Education many years ago under the old Provincial nystem, and had seen its evils, and was now, and hoped ho ever would be, a supportor of tho present system. Wo wero doing a great and good work. Hocould not tofrain from saying a word or two about tho idea that hadbocn mooted about administering all the affairs of education in this provincial district from Wollinfrton, by a Minister 'or Commissioner, doing away with the Boards of Education, and centralising the whole in Wellington. Tho proposal was preposterous, and ho vontured to say the people, tho committee?, would nevor submit to such a monstrous proposition. Tho committees elected tho Board. We had tho charge of their into.ests; aodif wo wero unfaithful to our trust, they would replace us by men in whom they liau conlidencc. At any rate, the commit tecs hadlocal self-Kovernmont.and wo wore responsible to them and he felt quite certain the committees would never give up any of their rights in this reßpect. Ho (Mr Hobbs) felt the responsibility of the position ho now occupied, and he would now afresh dovoto himself to looking after the interests of education throughout this provincial district in particular, and tho colony as a whole. Ho again thanked the committees who had voted for him.
