By. the last mail from England Mr C. B. Stono received plans of a new steel steamer intondod for the coal trade between Greymonth and this port No less than fifty-nine tenders wero reeclved,endthataccoptcdwasfromMessrsPcarco Broa., of Dundee. The steamer ia to be built on the following dimensions .-Length overall 180 ft ! length between perpendiculars.ls 2ft.; hrea lth moulded, 13ft. llin.; depth, 1.-ft She ?s intended to carry about 620 tons coal on a draught of lift, or 720 tonß grain on a draught of 12ft Tho saloon, which is situated aft will have accommodation for 10 passengors, and will be fitted with all the latestimprovements .It is to be upholstered in velvet pilo, and provided wiUi swing chairs. The ladies' cabin will be approachelfrom the saloon, while on deck will ho a smoking-room, arranged so as.to protiJo sleeping accommodation foi-six-persons when necessary. The captain's and officers' quarters an to"bebinder theVidge, amidships-a very mutable apartments. The vessel s decks w 11 bo of iron, with three hatchways, while stoam winches are to be provided for the convenient working of cargo. The engines will be _!.. .v _», witli a3O inch stroke. The contractors expect to launch her during June. It is expecteu that she will sail about the end of that month, and arrive at Greymouth In August. Captain Savory, who is to superintend the construction, of the steamer, expects to bring her out.himself. 'The now vessel is to be called the Herald, one will sail under the well-known "S.B. Hag, although besides Mcssi'3 Stone Bros., four other Auckland gentlemen havo an interest in her.
