HARBOUR BOARD.
Annual Meeting.
Tiik annual meeting of the Harbour Hoard for tho reception of the yearly accounts was held at noon to-day. Thero were present:—Messrs C. B. Stone (in the chair), Lamb, Waddel, Aickin, and Nathan. Tlie lintMicial statement, which will be published in our to-morrow evening's issue, wus read by tlio Secretary. The Chairman moved its adoption, and tho motion was agreed to. Speaking on the subject, Mr Aickin said that while the statements .were satisfactory and glowing in so far that they showed an increase of £3,55G in the ordinary revenue, <t would he well to bear in mind that they could not expect such a balance next year, as tho reductions in shipping charges from gross to net tonnage, and Ihe abolition of the tolls and shipping wharfage, would involve a loss of about £4,000. The Mayor considered thoso reductions would be met by tho progress of the port during the year, whilo Mr Nathan also believed that tho progress of the port warranted them in concluding that there would be no actual loss. Mr Aickin explained that he did not mean to say that there would be any loss.
Mr Lamb pointed out that thoToductions would relieve the shipping and mercantile interests to a large extent. An extract from the Treasurer's annual report was read, and showed that during the past your the estimate:! revenue had been exceeded by more than £1,000. The Mayor referred lo tho desirability of relieving lessees of foreshore allotments of the present charges on timber landed on their wharves or frontages, and the meeting then terminated.
