Messrs Bird am! Oeegan, formerly of the Telegraph Department, have applied for letters patent for "secondary battery cell for storing or conserving' electricity." Thoy claim to have discovered nioftns by which they obtain far greater capacity in ti given space than has been obtained in other storage batteries in use; as the great objection to storage batteries is their weight. The invention of Messrs Bird and Geegan, if it can bo economically worked, will help, so far as electric lighting is concerned, to remove a great difficulty which now stands in the way. The experimental cells were charged by Gummington and Kent's dynamo, and arc, so far as is known, Lho first made in New Zealand. It is proposed to exhibit the battery in work at the coming exhibition. Champion Wrostllng Match. George Robinson left this morning for Dunedin, to hold himself in readiness for tho wrestling match with Strong on Saturday. The match is for the championship belt and iso a-side. Dunedin, this day. House Burned Down. A eix-roomeel houso in Albany-street, occupied by James Grant, Mas burned down at midnight last night. The furniture was insured in the Norwich Union for £100. Tho "Dummylsm" Report. At tho Land Board to-day, •Mr Pearsall and the Messrs Young, applicants for Strath and Taieri sections, writing from Tasmania, protested against tho finding of the " Dummy ism " Committee, maintaining* that the land they purchased was for their own uso and benefit. They ask the Board to issuo licenses to them, and state their willingness to pay the rent.
