+ i :EX? T Journalist recently wrot3 a ratner unfavourable criticism of the performance of an actress. The latter felt deeply wounded, and longed for a chance to avenge Herself. One evening at the Varieties, where she was in company with a fast your.g aristocrat, she spied the journalist in question. She had a package for him, which she requested her friend to deliver in person. ■Uie dandy arose, and, taking *8 package from the lady's hand, walked over to the journalist and presented it to him saying, "Mademoiselle, «""° admires your talent, has requested me P> present you with this as a souvenir fro™ her." The critic took the package and opened it before the curious eyes of abonz twenty persons who had heard the ds™? * Uttle speech. It contained about »doz^ n goose-quills. Smiles and suppressed teugnter followed, but the scriba fflH^T the occasion. " Ah.my dearsir,''*udn er)j?° dandy, "please give my bestthanfo tc,tba lady for these prettyfeathers ! I.*^ of the fact that .she plucked hf J^^ but I really didn't think that-d* did so on my account."
