due on tho 'iOth of November. J.H., Hobson-street—There is no official time for English races, but one of Benson's chrono§raphs is general used by an employee of the rm. The Americans adopt the same principle as in Australia in timing tlioir races.
Ignoramur.—Two foals by the same sire from different" dams are, as a matter of fact, hall"brothera ; but, in referring to half-brothers, breeders mean only those that are by different sires from thesamodam.
Old Victorian.—Maribyrnong started for the V.R.C. Derby won by Seagull, and, rounding the last turn, lie broke his leg, but he was saved for stud purposes.
U.S.—The fastest time for the English Derby was made by Kettledrum and JJlair Athol, who ran the distance in 2min. l.'isec. Tho fastest time for the V.R.C. Derby was made by Darebin and Navigator, who ran the mile and a-half in iinin. 4Hbcc.
Aucki.andkr.—ln England it is generally pronounced Darby.
