"THE LONDON WATCHMAKER AND JEWELLER."
(Extract from tho Leading Article.) London, March 5,1883. " . . . While on tho subject of Waltham Watches, we may mention that we have seen a letter from the COmj mander of the Gordon Castle (Castle line of Steam-packets), who was fortunate enough to save life at sea, and who for his valiant conduct was presented in September last with a Gold Keyless Waltham Watch by the President of the United States, on behalf of the London Local Marine Board, Referring to this presentation watch, ha says :—' When I left London the watch was six seconds fast, and on my arrival at Singapore it was only three seconds slow, ft most extraordinary performance for • watch, as I carried it on my person the whole of the time. I compared it every day with my chronometers on the passage out and it seldom or never differed one secona from them ; in fact, I found it almost if noi as good as my chronometers, which is[ » great thing to say for a watch camett about and subject to all kinds of jolts.
