THE NEW MOUNT EDEN HALL.

TilK new Mount Eden Hall was opened 1 lost erening in a highly creditable stylo by IMr Honry Waito, tho well-known tinsmith iof this city. Tho hall was erected by Mr 1 William Sayera, and is capablo of holding 300 persons comfortably. About 200 persons responded to Mr Waito'i'invitations. The hall wan prettily doeoratod with flowers, pictures, and tho word " welcome " worked with ivy leaves. Around werp representations of tho seasons, and the Muses from, tho Greek mythology. The hall is very ornamental, wi,tb, two'brilliant chapdelieyß, and two anto-rooms, one fo* refreshments, and the other for ladies, Tho ! Chairman, Mr ftaine, formally opened tho hall, and stated tho objects of the spirited propriotor in erecting it, viz., for social reunions, quadrille parties, political, ; miisioal, and literary purposes; also, for ' familios andtboirfriendsforovoningparties ; a piano, tea servico, and every convenience supplied on tho lowest possible terms. Mr Waito delivered a neat address.and said that 1 nothing intoxicating would bo permitted. Ho might inform his friends that the hall was built with jiints of beer,or in othor words with tho regular savings of money which might havo bcon wasted in hotels. Major Green and Mr Shirley Hill made congratulatory' remarks, and considered' that t'h'o now hall will be found vbry useful, i,u tho growing neighbourhood of Mount Edpn,' An excel, lent programme, was then gone through very creditably.' Mr E. Spragg sang " The Frjqr,'1 accompanied by his daughter ; Miss M:*yson. gave '"The Lovev and Bird," accompanied, by Miss Griffith ; Mr Barry, senior, incited.
