Negotiations which haae been pending for some time between the Union Steamship Company and the Kamo coal Company for the purchase of the steamer Waitaki have now been concluded, with the result that in about a month's time the Waitaki will take up tlie trade between this port and Whangarei, in opposition to the Northern Steamship Company. Captain Crawford has resigned his posision as master of the s.s. Glenelg to take charge of the Waitaki on behalf of the Coal Company. The Waitaki is an iron vessel of 41- tons gross register.
