Settling at Tattersall's,

There was a very la'ge attendance at Tattersall's last night, and the ring appears in much better spirits than they have beeninsincetheDerby was rub. Tlie victory of Assyrian saved their very bad books on the double, as Navigator had been taken very largely by the public in doublos with moat of the Cup favourites. The starting price of Assyrian was 100 to 3. The colt is owned by Mr Alison, of Adelaide, theitiical agent, and Mr Barnfield, at Adelaide, bookmaker. They win £B,COO by his victory. Jones, a stockbroker of Ballarat, backed Assyrian to win for £2,000; and Allen and Jo?epl\ of Melbourne, each laid him in a double with Navigator for £1,000 each. There are no very large winners amongst tho ring, and taking the meeting throuooat, the public hive • had the best "of the betting, the ring being hit in eleven out of twelve events.

The public were previously disappointed about the performance of Sweet William, Little Jack, Mistaken, and Stiug, all of whom were held in heavy doubles w'tb. Navigator, and appeared so e(o 1 that very little was laid oft in doublo* under £1000. They were also extensively held; but most of the mooey wn» laid olf by the small investors as soon as they got one log io.
