DEATH OF J. M. TUNNY, ESQ.
It is our sad duty to chronicle tho death fMr J. Mi Tunny, Colonial Analyst for the Provincial Di-trictof Auckland, which occurred at tho Hospital yontorday. The deceased gentleman was for some time post suffering from an affection of tho lungs, and was admitted to theHoapital about three weeks ago. Mr Tunny, who was 35 years of ago, was the son of Mr Tunny, of Edinburgb, a well-known portrait-pniuter, and proprietor of a large photographic business. Mr Tunny, who learnt the business of an analytical chemist in tho laberatory of the celebrated Scotch chemist, Dr. Stevenson Macadam, arrived hero in 1874, and was shortly after appointed analyst under the Provincial Government, and on the abolition of Provinces, the Ueneral Government retained his service;*. Ho was in partnership with Mr J. A, Pond in the erection of sulphur works at Nonhcote, for the purpose ti working tho depo»its of White Inland. A paper he read before the Auckland inati. tute, in 1875, on " Coal," excited favourable commsmt. Tbe deceased gentleman was manied after his arrival in New Zealand, and leaves a wife and two youug children to mourn his loss.
