HAMILTON, this day. 1 bear, on very good authority, that the Constabulary will not be sent to complete the Cambridge- Kotorua Boad, but.will, instead, if the King natives are favourable, be sent to construct the proposed new road through the King Country, from Whatiwhatihoe in the direction of some European settlement on West Coast. 'Jho matter will be determined by Mr Bryce when he visits Waikato. a few men will be put on to complete the Botorna road as far as tho bush, which will be let by contract.

CAMBEIDGE, this day. It is believed tbat influence is being brought to bear to have blocks ou the West Bide of the Waikato river, in the Taupo district, adjourned to the Court at Taupo or Kihikihi, instead of through the Court to be. held next month.

NEW PLYMOUTH, this day. WRECK OF A FISHING BOAT.

A half-decked fishing boat with four tons of cargo for Mokau, on crossing the bar at that place, was thrown upon the rocks of the South Head, and was quickly broken up, tho sea being heavy. The whole of the cargo, valued at £150, was lost. All the crow were saved. A second boat with timber, which left Waitara on Friday last, has not been heard of, and great anxiety is felt for her safety.

WELLINGTON, this day. FISHBRMAN DROWNED.

A fisherman named Thomas Hewson was drowned at Oterongo Bay, Terawhiti, on Saturday. Hewson, along with his ma;e, was attempting to secure some gill nets, when the boat capsized. The latter clung to the boat and was driven ashore, fiewsou managed to secure the mast, but became exhausted, and sank, When the body is roaovered an inquest will be held, Mr J. H. Kirk, who has been in the Rank of New Zealand for the last 7 years, the greater portion of which he spent in Auckland and Waikato, has severed his connection with that establishment, and intends to settle down in business in Sanson, neai Wanganni, where he has been acting as agent for the bank.

Tho Ada C. Owen was successfully floated last night, with tho assistance of the steamers Beautiful Star and Result.

1 The office of T. Harris Licttfield was . broken into last night. Bfforts were made to remove the safe, but without success. The safe contained £70 in cash, and a lurgt number of valuable documeata. IS othing was stolen from the premises.
