SCROLARSHIPS FOR 1880. — Professor Sband moved : That the ac counts of the University for tho lost year he passed aa audited ; That eight junior scholarships and five senior scholarships be offered for competition at the examinations of 1882. —A greed 10. Cost of __cA_u.UTioN-.-Rev. D. Roseby moved ; That the cost of the annual examinations ot students exempted by the university from attendance at lectures, in affiliated institutions on whose books the names of such studonts appear, be borne by this university ; That a regulation be framed to thia effect.—Carried.
Geology,—Professor Yon Haast movod : That Geology be added to the subjects of Natural Science for Matriculation ond Junior Scholarships, — Tbo motion was negatived on the casting vote of tbo chair. The Chancellor said ho gave bis vote with tbe noes because tho whole subject had already been fully considered and a resolution come to.
Dentist.—Professor Macgrcgor movod : That Mr B. Thropc, of Dunedin, be appointed a member of tho Examining Board, under the Dentists Act, 1880, as it" Skilled Dentist."—Curried.
Ceremonies.—On tho motion of Dr. Boseby, it was resolved, that, whenever practicable, tho Chancellor, in conferring degrees of tho university, and tho members present on such occasions, should wear the habit of their status or degrco,
Extension of Chaster. — On tho motion of Professor Yon Haast, tho suggestions of tho committee on this subject to consider the petition to the Queen, praying that the university might havo power to confer degrees in science, woro considered. The petition was adopted.
