Aiiii EncjLAnd Eleven y. Auckland TWENTY-TWO. Trk above match takes place oa the Domain Uricket Ground on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday^ commencing at 12 o'clock sharp each day. Tho" Mayor has requested all good citizens to join him in according a hearty welcome to our visitors by closing their establishments anil givln? half-holidays to all bands, so as to enable all and everybody to attend tho match. The weather promises fair, and, with the beautiful ground and good cricket, a large attendance should result. We give a list ef tho Auckland twenty-two, tatting them in club lots, and commencing with the Auckland Club. Wi W". Robinson :. Hails from Epsom College; Captained tlia Auckland Representative team which went South in 1873, and beat all befpre them ; a stylish bat; punishes anything loose on the off Bide; rather fond of poking to leg instead of hitting, but generally gets runs; bowls medium pace left round arm, breaks both ways, and uses his head a lot; is an-ex-cellent field and sure catch. W. H. Vereker-Bindon : A Trinity College (Dublin) player. Uncertain bat, bowls underhand fast shooters, excellent field; generally longstops for his club, and does it really well; picks up clean, and easy return.- ' , . — Dewes: Comes to us from Napier lately. Has shown fair form ; free hitter, good, active field ; keeps wicket for Auckfand Club decently. — Cameron : Very hard sloggcr; when he scores it ia very quickly; not much defence j usually fields neat the tickets, .often " takes the sticks "in local matches, ttnd is pretty good at it. • " . T. A. Cox: A very steady bat and excellent field ; covers a lot of ground ; bowls alow round arm, with a deal ot break. B. J. Yates (Auckland, native): The chimpion bat of the 1873 team under Robinson, a steady, painstaking bat; cuts Clean and hard, a good all round field ; made 35 against Shaw and his confreres in the last All England Eleven., Mr Yates has only lately let go the tilloj to agaiq handle the willow, aud has quite recovered his old form. — O'Brien : Learnt his Cricket at Oscott College j pretty wristy bat; line field, with I good return; a late arrival in Auckland, West Eud contributes the following : - D. Lynch (Auckland native) : The crack man of Auckland, all rouud, picked up his wrinkles from Hill, at Stony hurst College ; a steady, patient bat, but knows where to hit hard, and does it; bowls fast round arm with plenty of "devil" iuit; is a good field, especially in the slips; .won the " Sharland bat" last season, for the highest

season's score. J. Ameil : A "colt," nice bat, places well and hits hard, with strong defence ; has a weakness for getting stumped, which he will do well to correct; a good bowler on a hard wicket, breaking back pretty surely, but is rather apt to cut it when he don't come' off; clever field, with good return.

C. B. King: A poor bat, though sometimes scoring pretty hk'h for his ciub; will most likely keep wickets for ns; -his great fault in that position being that ho is inclined to fumble the ball when thrown In. VV. Isaac : Active field near the wickets ; always on the alert; bowls slow round-arid "chimney pots," which are pretty teasing sometimes; can't bat worth a cent against such men as he will meet on thia occasion. R. Whiteside : Auckland nativo, perhaps the hardest hitter we possess ; plays with a straight bat, aud stops a shooter well sometimes ; covers more ground in the out field than any other man in tho 22, aud throws iv well; a fair fast round-arm bowler. The United gives us : — J. Mumford, another 1873 representative : A very steady bat; nearly always scores; .mart field, especially at point; knows the game. . Lankham, juo. : Another colt; fair bat and field ; good medium pace bowler; always on the spot, and generally gets Cecil Gardner: New chum. Good all round field; make 3 a hit at longstop; often gets runs.in a style of his own.. Percy Dufaur : A fine field anywhere ; throws in well; stylish bat, and good wicket-keeper. . , - - W. F. Buckland : An Auckland native ; gcta runs when least expected; fair medium pace round-arm bowler ; middling field ; was the getter-up of the '73 team. J. Testro: A sticking bat, who often makes a good score; very good field, pickiugup clean, and with smart return. C. Bowden : Otahuhu., Steady ba\ excellent field, and fair slow bowler ; one of the mainstays of the country club. D. Donovan : Onehunga. Fine field, free bat, and fair bowlor; iiiediuin roundarm ; keeps wickets for bis club. G. Farrar (Tauranga) was one of the team from that place who lately visited Auckland, and took tbe bat tor best average on tho tour; free bat and good field; bowls fast "grubbers," which wero vory destructive against Auckland players. J. Thompson : Began hia cricket heie as captain of the Simonsen Opera Troupe team in the Costume Cricket Match played at the end of last season j has Bince made Bcvcral fair scores ; etyiisli bat, good field; gets his runs quickly, keeps wickets; in fact, ought lo be iv that position in the match.

Wo can only Wish the above good luck, and hope they may score nioro than any other New' Zealand team has. done against the Englishmen, Wc know well enough they can't win, but trust the honour of Auckland will be upheld by their most strenuous efforts. It is to be hoped that no member of our 22 .will do as, at hast, one did iv tho match against tho Australians, viz., stroll into the thick of tho cowd aud engage in a heavy flirtation most of tho day. To say the least, it looks very crooked, and such conduct can never be, any. credit to either the individual or the team. Everybody ought to do their little all, and by keeping their places try to get their opponents out as quickly as possible. Faucy the pleasurable feelings of a bowler who, despairing of getting paa« a batsman, puts one up to be hit high into tho long field and finds bis man is not where he placed him, but is going in for a mild spoon among the crowd.
