DEATH OF MR W. ATKIN.

It is with feelings of regret that wo have to record the death of Mr William Atkin, printer, which took place at his residence, jDcvonport, to-day, at the age of 63 yearr. ■The paralytic stroke which rendered him helpless last Thursday was bo severe that very little hope of recovery was entertained by his medical advisers, Drs Wright and Furcbas. His condition had somewhat improved on Saturday, but notwithstanding the efforts of the physicians, he sank gradually ntitil to-day, when he.died. The news of his decease has caused general regret, Mr Atkin having been highly esteemed by all those with whom he was brought into contact. This feeling extended widely amongst his employe's, to whom he had always been a kind and considerate master, Mr Atkin was a native of Newcastle, England, where he was in business for a number of years as stationer and printer, holding Government contracts. Me came to N.Z. about 25 years ago in the ship Zoalandia, and commenced bnsinesshere. He prospered well.and in course of time employed a comparatively large staff on jobbing work. He took no prominent port in public matters, bat was a member of the Masonic body. .His family, consisting of two sons and several daughters, have all grown up, and one' daughter,.it may ie stated, is married to Captain Parker, of the ship Halcione.
