[FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.]

THAMES, this day. NATIVE LAND AGITATION*

The Government have instructed Mr G. Wilkinson, Native Agent at the Thames, to arrange for the closing of the Piako purchases commenced some time ago by Mr Mackay, and upon which a sum of upwards of £17,000 has been paid to various native owners. The block includes some 20,000 acres, but a large proportion of it is useless swamp lands. It runs from Whakatiwai on towards the Waitoa, and back to Mr Earl's land and the sawing station. There are some excellent patches here and there, but many of them are occupied by natives, and -would be required as' reserves. Mr "Wilkinson has arranged to meet the natives interested in the sale of the lands at Whakatipi early next week. Some days will no doubt be spent in discussing the matter, and Mr Wilkinson will deserve great praise if he succeeds in bringing this complicated native land entanglement to a successful issue.
