The fortnightly meeting of the Waste Lands Board was proceeding when we went to.press, the members present being Messrs Tole, May, and Moat. The business, which consisted in the consideration of applications for land, &c, was of the ordinary character. .A report by the surveyor on the lands recently transferred by the Governmeut to the Waste Lands Board was also read.
The incumbent and churchwardens of St. Matthew's request ua to acknowledge for them the receipt of the following amounts for the sick family in whose behalf they appealed :—Collected by Mr Bettany, £31 ss; Mrs E. Harrison, £8 Is Id; incumbent and churchwardens. £18 6s; "Herald" office, £5 5s ; STAR office, £3 7s 6d : total, £66 4a 6d.
Water consumers are finally reminded that the city turncock will be taking his rounds to cut off supplies unra'd for very shortly, the charge for cutting off and turning being 5s each. Moral: Save your money.
19,404 children attended the Otagoschoola during- the June quarter. Towards the end the number decreased by 1,373, owing to the prevalence of measles, 1000 being absent in city schools alone. There are only 200, under school age, attending the Otago sc hoole.
