FOOTBALL MATCH.
AUCKLAND V. NORTH SHORE. The first match of the season between tbe above Clubs was played at the North Shoro on Saturday afternoon, and resulted in a victory for the local team by six tries (15! points) to nil. North Shore won the toss, and elected to kick against the wind, which was blowing strongly across the ground,, In the first term North Shore drew their opponents back, and Sims ran in and secured a try. KcGechie essayed the kick,, but, although the ball went fairly between; the posts, a gust of wind drove it back: almost to the spot it had been kicked from. In the second term Innis secured another try for the North Shore, and a little later Sims was again successful. Auckland started the third term with the wind in their favour, and determined to retrieve their fortunes, bnt North Shore, playing up well, drove their opponents back, and O'Connor secured a try. With wind and weight against them, Auckland faced their opponents for the last teim, and, although they played up well, they could not withstand the determined rushes ot the North Shore forwards, Swanson and Reid each securing a try, when no aide was called. No goals were kicked, and the match ended as above. The play of the North Shore team was an improvement on the previous Saturday. Ihe passing was good, although the kicking of theforwards was a little too hard at times. O'Connor, Mears, Sims, and Burgess played a hard forward game, while Swanson and McGechie got some good runs. Auckland (playing three men short) was over-matched. Notwithstanding, they played well ani pluckily, Bindon, B enderson, Pearson, and Cnlpan being especially conspicuous, although the latter might use his head to more advantage. In future matches it is to be hoped that players will turn up, and not be afraid of a little rain or wind.
