PONSONBY REGATTA.

(To the Jffiditor.)

Sir,—lt affords me great amusement to listen to " New Dominion," evidently one of the late committee, tryins? to explain how the last regatta was bungled, and blaming the weather and Oh!—saying that ho believed the virdict of the public was favourable to the committee who carried out the regatta of 1881 at Ponsonby. 1/ " New Dominion "I would take five minutea and roferj back to the files of any of the Auckland papers, and see theroin the opinion expressed by the public, he would simply find that the reverse was tbo case. Next " New Dominion " goes on to ask why I should take exception of the now committee?—l will tell him at the meeting—l |do not Buppose thore wore more than twenty subscribers who were eligible give a vote for any committee man, and yet a committee was elected who, I may safely Bay, with few exceptions are not representing Ponsonby, and I again say are not competent to carry out a regatta. " New Dominion" goes on to say that name after name of supposed eligible men (sjaveithe mark in "New Dominion's opinion), are submitted but those gentleman will not stand. " New Dominion " must be very obtuse if ha cannot understand the why. They do not care to be mixed up with those who may, and do, interfere in the management of a concern that they kuow nothing about. IE a full meotinst of the subscribers to the Ponsonby Kcgatta had boon cnvened after the prizes wore paid, I feel assured that a competent committee could easily have been obtained, who would fully represent tho district Now, "Now Dominion" must not think that I wish to cast any reflection on any of the late committee, and should take all I say in good part, because I am only anxious that the the Ponsonby Kegatta should be carried out properly. " New Dominion " says that my request that the present committee should resun emanates from a strangely-constituted mind, mid will be treated wiJi the contempt it deserves. Possibly so, but that comes from him, and may be taken for what it is worth. Kvidently he is an amateur on committees, and feels proud of his position. Touching the names I havo mentioned as proper men to represent Pousonby in anything connected with regattas, &c , "New Dominion's" remarks recoil on his own head, and so far as their names go and standing in the district they are far and above reproach, and it is well known that it they put thoir hands to any public or private enterprise they carry it through, and do not bungle it. Anything that "New Dominion" may say in future I will not reply to. and I only hope he may see himsolt as others see, and let better men take his placo, as anyone who wishes for tho good of Ponsonby would do.—Yours, &c, Ponsonby. _____
