Sill, —Referring to a letter in your last Saturday's is?uc iv reference to the assumed inaction of the Corporation iv not establishing a gas supply, it is only due to the Council to state that it waa originally at their instance the powers to erect, supply, or purchase gas works, was inserted in rhe Municipal '.'orporations Act, 1875, but a clause was afterwards inserted (1 think in the Upper House) to the ellect that no corporation should have power to erect gas works in any town in which a company was already established with a special act of the legislature.—Yours, &c, PUBLICUS.
